Samuel Dickow, born in 1987 in Curitiba, Brazil, is a contemporary visual artist whose work captivates and challenges the viewer. Now based in Aracaju, Dickow has garnered acclaim for his groundbreaking exploration of color, abstract forms, and the seamless fusion of these elements with figurative components. His art delves deep into the complex interplay between landscape, painting, and photography, offering a unique perspective on these mediums.

Since launching his artistic career in 2010, Dickow has pursued a profound inquiry into the concept of landscape, skillfully balancing abstract and figurative expressions. His early works were marked by a fascination with color contrast and the dynamic interaction of abstract shapes, always in dialogue with the notion of landscape. This exploration evolved into a more figurative approach, particularly evident in his "Pinturas de Estrada" (Road Paintings) series, where images of empty billboards, bus stops, and other transitional spaces in Latin America serve as metaphors that engage with art history and the pictorial plane. Through these works, Dickow offers a poignant reflection on both urban and rural environments, using transitory elements as symbols of change and movement.

As his practice expanded, Dickow began to incorporate photography and painting, exploring the human figure while probing the influence of Western—particularly European and American—culture on Brazilian artistic thought. His representation of the figure is both expansive and politically charged, engaging with contemporary issues while drawing on established images and concepts from art history. Recently, Dickow has shifted his focus to monochromatic abstract paintings, a departure from his earlier vibrant palette. These black-and-white works reflect his continued interest in themes of memory and the evolving relationship between the viewer and the visual experience, posing critical questions about the future of visual art and the marks left by cultural narratives.

Dickow’s work has been exhibited extensively across Brazil, with notable solo exhibitions including "Pocket Exhibition" at Saracura Gallery in Rio de Janeiro (2018), "Talvez Horizonte" at SOMA Gallery in Curitiba (2017), and "Pinturas de Estrada" at FCC Museum in Curitiba (2014). His participation in significant group exhibitions, such as "Saravá" at Anita Schwartz Gallery in Rio de Janeiro (2022), the "Bienal de Curitiba" at Zilda Fraletti Gallery (2016), "Limiar" at SIM Gallery in Curitiba (2015), and "Possíveis Conexões" at MAC-PR Museum in Curitiba (2010), has further solidified his place in the Brazilian art scene.
